The people behind the numbers

Five hundred placements is a statistic. These are some of the individual moves behind it — told, as far as possible, in the words of the people who made them.

We had a site supervisor role open for five months. Empres asked to walk the site before writing the brief, then sent four people — we hired two. Both are still with us three years on.

I applied from Manila expecting the usual silence. Instead I had a named consultant, a written timeline, and someone waiting at the airport with a SIM card and my apartment keys.

The ALT interview was the first one where nobody oversold it. They told me regional placement meant a small town, cold winters and no English signs. They were right, and I renewed twice.

Nursing registration in New Zealand is not simple. My consultant knew the Council process better than the recruiters at the hospital did, and kept me informed every single week.

Twenty-two roles across two states in a single quarter. What mattered was that every candidate had been reference-checked properly. We stopped running our own adverts entirely.

They told me in the first call that my qualification would need assessment and that it would add three months. Nobody else had mentioned it. That honesty is why I stayed with them.

A Case Study

Twenty-two roles, two states, one quarter

A Western Australian resources contractor came to us in March with twenty-two vacancies across two states and a shutdown window that could not move. They had been advertising for four months and had made three hires.

We mapped the available population for each trade, told them honestly that four of the twenty-two roles were underpriced for the roster, and they adjusted. We filled eighteen roles from the domestic market and four through sponsored international placement.

Twenty of the twenty-two were still in role at twelve months. The two who left did so for reasons nobody could have screened for — one family illness, one return home. We refilled both at no additional fee.

  • 22 roles briefed in March, 18 filled domestically
  • 4 sponsored international placements
  • 20 of 22 still in role at twelve months
  • 2 refilled under the replacement guarantee
